Accreditation Management

What does academic program accreditation mean?
Accreditation of an academic program is official recognition by an accreditation body such as MQA, EAC or ETAC which confirms that a program meets the set quality standards of higher education.
Why is accreditation important for study programs?
Accreditation guarantees the quality of education, protects the interests of students and ensures that graduates' qualifications are recognized nationally and internationally.
What types of accreditation are involved in university programs?

Types of accreditation include:

  1. Provisional Accreditation is an assessment to determine whether a proposed program meets minimum quality standards before it is offered.
  2. Full Accreditation is an assessment to ensure that teaching, learning and all related activities for a program that has received Provisional Accreditation meet the set quality standards.
  3. Compliance Assessment is an assessment to monitor and ensure the maintenance and improvement of an accredited program.
When should a program apply for full accreditation?
Applications are usually made during the first cohort of students entering their final year of study, subject to the requirements of the Accreditation Body.
How can a program's accreditation status be checked?

Accreditation status can be checked via the official MQR website .

Risk Management

What is meant by risk and risk management?
Risk is something that is expected to happen in the future and has an impact on the objectives to be achieved. Risk Management is internal controls or additional controls created to prevent the occurrence of risks that could prevent an objective to be achieved.
What is the role of PTj in risk management?
Each Responsibility Center (RC) is responsible for identifying risks related to their respective operations, assessing the level of impact and likelihood of occurrence, and planning appropriate mitigation measures. Risk management at the RC level shall be managed and monitored by the Head of the Responsibility Center according to the type of risk and controls that have been established.
Does the university provide a Risk Management Manual?
Yes. The University Risk Management Manual is provided to assist all PTj in implementing risk management systematically and effectively.
Do all papers presented in meetings need to be reviewed by PPSKR through the BESTARI Form?
Proposal papers involving administrative routines such as the appointment of external examiners, academic course offerings each semester and reporting papers do not require PPSKR review. ISO Management

What is the ISO 9001:2015 Sistem Pengurusan Kualiti (SPK) and why is it important to UTeM?
SPK ISO 9001:2015 is an international standard framework that ensures that university administrative processes are implemented in a quality, systematic and consistent manner. It is important to ensure compliance, efficiency and continuous improvement in university operations.
Who is the entity responsible for coordinating ISO Internal Audit and External Audit at UTeM?
ISO Internal Audit and External Audit at UTeM are coordinated by the ISO Management Department, Pusat Perancangan Strategik, Kualiti dan Risiko(PPSKR). This audit is carried out once a year to assess the level of compliance and effectiveness of the implementation of the Sistem Pengurusan Kualiti (SPK) according to the requirements of the MS ISO 9001:2015 standard. The implementation of the audit will be officially announced through the PPSKR, UTeM Info announcement as well as an official letter for action and attention of all Pusat Tanggungjawab (PTj) and Pusat Berkuasa Univerisiti (PBU) involved.
What is MS ISO 9001:2015?

MS ISO 9001:2015 is an international standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS). It sets out the requirements for:

  1. Provide products and services consistently;
  2. Ensure compliance with customer requirements as well as relevant legal and regulatory requirements;
  3. Improve customer satisfaction through effective system implementation;
  4. Promote continuous improvement in organizational processes and performance;
  5. Assess and address risks and opportunities related to organizational objectives;
  6. Allows the organization to demonstrate compliance with quality management system requirements.
Why is MS ISO 9001:2015 Certification necessary?
The implementation of MS ISO 9001:2015 at UTeM is important to implement because it provides confidence and trust to customers and stakeholders. It proves the ability of the university's key processes such as teaching and learning, research, consulting and community service in consistently meeting their needs and expectations, while also increasing the level of customer satisfaction and UTeM's visibility to external parties.
What is your responsibility as a UTeM citizen towards the implementation of MS ISO 9001:2015?
Each staff is responsible for complying with the quality management system as specified in the defined scope of implementation. This includes adherence to established procedures and work instructions when performing the organization's core functions to ensure that customer needs are met and satisfaction is achieved. Relevant records must be maintained consistently as objective evidence of compliance with the system.
What needs to be done to ensure that MS ISO 9001:2015 Certification can be maintained?

To maintain this certification, UTeM must:

  1. Comply with the requirements and requirements of the MS ISO 9001:2015 Standard;
  2. Updating processes and documents;
  3. Conduct internal audits once a year and according to schedule;
  4. Take corrective action against nonconformities (NC);
  5. Implement a Management Review by holding a review meeting at least once a year with the University's Top Management;
  6. Evaluate the performance of the Quality Management System, quality objectives and customer feedback;
  7. Make continuous improvements and improvement actions based on audit results, complaints and data analysis;
  8. Implement record and document management and ensure records and documents are controlled and updated;
  9. Ensure records are kept as evidence of system compliance;
  10. Implement awareness activities and ensure the involvement of Top Management and staff in the University's Quality Management System;
  11. Conduct audits with certification bodies.

What is a global ranking and why is it important for a university?
Global rankings (e.g. QS and THE rankings) are systems of comparison between universities around the world based on specific criteria such as reputation, research, teaching and internationalisation. They are important for demonstrating the level of excellence of universities, attracting international students and opening up opportunities for global collaboration.
What is the role of staff and students in helping universities in global rankings?

Academic Staff: Publish quality articles, establish international collaborations and assist in the preparation of Academic Reputation (AR) and Employer Reputation (ER) data.

Support/Administrative Staff: Assist in the preparation of data for submission to the rating agency, provide quality services and support to students.

Students: Participate in exchange (mobility) programs, become university ambassadors, get involved in research and innovation programs.

How do scholarly publications affect university rankings?
The number and impact of publications (e.g. Scopus/WoS indexed journals) are a benchmark for the strength of research within a university. Articles with a high number of citations indicate the quality of the research and enhance the university's reputation globally.
What are the benefits of global rankings to universities and their citizens?
  1. Enhance the image and reputation of the university;
  2. Attracting international students and lecturers;
  3. Opening up opportunities for research collaboration and international funding; and
